Support Students Through Meaningful Volunteer Service

River City Science Academy welcomes parents, caregivers, family members, and community volunteers who would like to support school activities and student programs.

Volunteer opportunities may include classroom support, school events, family engagement activities, community outreach, and other campus needs.

All volunteers must complete the required Duval County Public Schools volunteer clearance process before participating on campus. Applications typically take 5–10 business days to process.

    Volunteer Clearance Requirements

We know that many parents have children that attend various schools, some of which may be charter-managed and others which may be district-managed. Per the most recent update, we will not be allowing volunteers and visitors into district-managed school buildings until at least September 7th to minimize the risk of COVID-19 entering our school campuses. I just wanted to mention that in the event it causes any confusion for parents so they can know what to expect. The most up-to-date information about volunteers can always be found on our district’s volunteer webpage at https://dcps.duvalschools.org/o/dcps/page/volunteer

Understanding that several of your schools may plan to utilize volunteers, we have a unique link ONLY for use by charter school volunteers. Share this with your volunteers as necessary to allow them to complete an application. The application link is as follows: https://dcps.samaritan.com/custom/506/#/opp_details/3464 Please copy and paste this link into your communication with them instead of forwarding this communication because we have a survey contained in this email only for you as the principal or one of your staff.

We did not provide access to the volunteer screening system to staff last school year since we were not allowing volunteers in school buildings. That being said, we hope to be able to give you additional information about upcoming training and access to the system by the time we join you for your Charter Principals’ Meeting. If you need assistance with clearances for volunteers you are utilizing within your buildings until then, please contact us via email at volunteer@duvalschools.org or 904-390-2960.

Please complete the brief survey below to help us identify your preferred contacts for supporting volunteers within your respective schools. Even if you don’t utilize DCPS’ volunteer background screening system to process applications, please provide your point(s) of contact so we can know where to direct parents as they contact our office with questions/concerns.

You can access the Charter Schools’ Volunteer Survey by clicking HERE.

Thank you all, and we look forward to working with you. Have a great week, and we’ll see you soon.
